  1. Dedicate the necessary staff and financial resources to address the problem.  Recognize that shoplifting is a sever problem.
  2. Develop a strategy specific to each store under your onwership.  Take into consideration the different types of theft.
  3. Prominently dislay your store policy for anyone caught shoplifting. Make it clear and foreful - "Shoplifters Will Be Prosecuted".
  4. Publicize your efforts to combat shoplifting.  Follow through on your prosecution of anyone caught, including employees.
  5. Thoroughly screen potential new hires, state your "zero-tolerance" policy to discourage employee theft.  Be selective on employee training.
